Caldwell, Idaho

Caldwell

Caldwell sits along a natural passageway to the Inland and Pacific Northwest. After deciding the grade was too steep going in to Boise City, Robert Strahorn chose the Caldwell site for the Oregon Short Line Railroad’s route and the city of Caldwell was born.

Home to the prestigious liberal-arts college, The College of Idaho, Caldwell is also the county seat of Canyon County. The town has certainly come a long way from its beginnings, and is undergoing some major changes, while still maintaining its agricultural roots.

Downtown Caldwell has a lovely park walk along Indian Creek that gets decorated with thousands of lights every winter. There is also a new skating rink going in to the newly re-designed downtown square.

Every July, Caldwell is filled with 4-H & FFA kids showing off their projects at the Canyon County Fair – along with all the fair food and rides, of course. In August the town is filled with cowboys and cowgirls in town for the Caldwell Night Rodeo.

In the mood for a little wine? No worries, Caldwell has become a destination for wineries and wine-enthusiasts alike. With over 10 wineries just a short drive from Caldwell, wine tasting in Caldwell is certainly a wonderful way to spend a day.
